Who you are:

The Production Technician - Temp will assist the Production Team in identifying, analyzing, organizing and implementing process improvement initiatives, organization and labeling systems, layout updates, documentation updates, inventory planning support and MRP system inputs.

In addition, this position may be called up to provide support activities within the Production department, which will include performing detailed electronic and electro-mechanical assembly in sub-assembly or assembly units, as well as bench testing of Integrated Navigation Bridge Systems. In building and testing electro-mechanical assemblies, the incumbent will hold tolerances to blueprint and/or oral and written specifications. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for performing parts installation, wiring, cable harnessing and hand soldering using standard sequence and also perform repairs to legacy/customer equipment.

The Job:
  • Continue with the implementation of process improvements to reduce assembly times, including:
  • Flow charting / Value-Stream Mapping (VSM) to determine how to streamline and reduce any wastes in our processes.
  • Updating changes to current documents and/or issuing new documentation as required.
  • Assisting with implementing additional 5S activities for tooling, bench layouts and other areas as identified. This could include a process for using picture IDs for tracking tool borrowing.
  • Reduction of process setup times.
  • Implement 2bin system for consumables in the AOPS area.
  • Update the process for the organization and use of test cables to eliminate down time looking for missing cables
  • Others as time permits.
  • Continue to implement the tooling specification and control process and tie it in with the current calibration process.
  • Assisting with any facility layout activities as assigned.
  • Review and analyze current production and inventory planning methods and determine improvements as required.
  • Assist with the analysis of the current MRP system and provide input to improve methods as determined. Update documentation as required.
  • Assist with any PDXpert review and implementation as assigned.
  • Assist engineering with projects as assigned.

You Bring:
  • A high school diploma; curriculum including studies in electronics, mathematics ,science , mechanics
  • Some level of lean manufacturing, six-sigma, and continuous improvement involvement is recommended.  Additional experience in the following would be an asset: 1-3 years electro-mechanical experience in detailed soldering; Experience in electro-mechanical assembly, testing along with following schematics, experience working in an ISO 9001 compliant environment would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, power tools, fixtures and measuring devices including DVMs; Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; Ability to work independently or within a team to accomplish objectives; Attention to detail in ensuring that quality and efficiency standards are met or exceeded; Excellent oral and written English communication skills; Strong organizational skills
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include adequate close vision, as well as adequate color and depth perception; This position may require lifting and moving products of up to 50 lbs.; Must be eligible to receive & maintain Canadian security clearance; May be required to work overtime as needed, some domestic travel may be required from time to time.
